Course overview
The aim of this course is to consolidate knowledge and skills in Medical Imaging in preparation for commencing professional practice. Clinical skills development (entry level) building on technical skills gained in previous clinical courses including patient care and communication, safety, professional behaviour, team working, self motivation, self directed learning and clinical reasoning; continuing professional development.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate professional entry level knowledge of scope of clinical skills and practice underpinning Medical Imaging including principles, clinical application, procedures, participation with other health care members, information management, confidentiality, scope of practice and role within team.
- Use reflection to critically assess their own abilities in their final clinical placement, personal styles and preferences for work and scope of practice of the medical imaging professional.
- Apply problem solving skills in the clinical setting to maintain quality outcomes for the clinical site and the patient, and to maximise time and resource utilisation at a professional entry level.
- Act ethically, professionally and in a safe manner by adhering to relevant codes of conduct, radiation safety guidelines and legislation, University of South Australia's clinical policies and the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) standards (where applicable to clinical practice).
- Operate effectively as an autonomous responsible practitioner to demonstrate a broad and thorough knowledge of radiographic practice, procedures, positioning, and perform examinations of high and complex level.
- Fulfil duty of care and communicate and act with respect to individuals, carers, and colleagues in clinical practice at a professional entry level.
- Participate in the development of a continuing professional development activity.
