Course overview
In this course students will develop appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes to enhance their comprehension of the specialised imaging areas of Angiography, Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD), and Mammography, in conjunction with, and addition to, the advanced clinical communication requirements of a Medical Radiation Practitioner (MRP). Contents include: equipment and physical principles of imaging systems including digital imaging; image acquisition; image manipulations; angiography procedures; DSA; interventional techniques; mammographic procedures; bone mineral density; image interpretation; image quality; image evaluation; anatomy recognition in multiple planes; pathology; artefacts; quality assurance procedures; conflict resolution, patient care; teamwork.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply knowledge previously acquired in medical radiation science and demonstrate a knowledge of the principles, equipment, clinical applications, imaging protocols; and image evaluation involved in mammography.
- Apply knowledge previously acquired in medical radiation science and demonstrate a knowledge of the principles, equipment, procedures, techniques and image evaluation involved in angiography and digital subtraction angiography (DSA).
- Apply knowledge previously acquired in medical radiation science and demonstrate a knowledge of the principles, equipment, procedures, techniques and image evaluation involved in contemporary interventional radiology procedures.
- Describe methods used to measure bone density and interpretation of resultant data,
- Discuss problem solving and conflict resolution strategies applicable to examining patients with varying degrees of emotional duress using case based scenarios.
- Demonstrate knowledge of principles of quality and safety in healthcare including interpersonal communication.
