Course overview
This course will develop for students the appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes leading to an intermediate level of Medical Imaging clinical practice. Contents include: radiographic procedures of the spine, head and associated regions; digital imaging technology; quality assurance; image evaluation; cultural considerations; teamwork; radiation safety.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate competency in basic radiographic procedures of the spine and head and relevant regions within a simulated practical environment and demonstrate accurate patient positioning and a theoretical knowledge of the above radiographic procedures.
- Produce images using digital technology and perform elementary image manipulation procedures.
- Describe routine quality assurance procedures relating to X-ray generation and digital imaging.
- Evaluate and interpret images for demonstration of pathology and accuracy of radiographic projections and recommend suggestions for correction or additional views.
- Identify strategies applicable to examining patients from varying cultural groups including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Examine the role of individuals within a team when learning in a case based scenario environment.
- Explain the applications of radiation safety in a Medical Imaging department.
