Course overview

The aim of this course is to strengthen your knowledge and skills of epidemiological principles and methods. The course focuses on building your ability to locate, access, manipulate, and analyse data through hands-on use of relevant software. You will also learn how to interpret and critically evaluate health-related information by applying epidemiological principles, as well as learning to communicate information clearly and effectively to a broad audience. At the end of this course, you will have learned how to analyse, interpret, and communicate data in line with epidemiological principles, and think critically about the strengths and limitations of various epidemiological approaches.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate proficiency in accessing, manipulating, and analysing data using relevant software
  • Explain the role of different epidemiological approaches in understanding and improving health in populations
  • Understand how to identify and assess the impact of the main sources of bias (confounding, selection and information bias) in epidemiological research
  • Critically evaluate relevant information by applying epidemiological principles and methods
  • Communicate information clearly and effectively to a broad audience
