Course overview

The aim of this course is to give you the knowledge and skills to apply evaluation theory and methods to policy and program-related decision-making for public health. In this course, you will learn about evaluation frameworks, theories and approaches. You will focus on the use of mixed methods to analyse and evaluate public health interventions, programs and services. By assessing real world case studies and scenarios, you will learn how to assess evaluation needs and apply evaluation methods. You will be introduced to the knowledge and skills required to conduct evaluations as a public health professional.

  • Compare and contrast public health evaluation frameworks, theories and approaches
  • Assess the evaluation requirements for a range of health services, programs and policies relevant to public health
  • Identify data sources, data collection and data analysis processes commonly used in evaluation
  • Apply evaluation theory and mixed methods to design an evaluation plan for interventions, programs and services that aim to improve health of populations
