Course overview

This course is designed to advance your knowledge of ethical theories and approaches in public health. You will learn about philosophical perspectives on ethics; ethics theories and principles; and ethical issues for the public health professional. You will explore approaches to ethical reasoning and practice through examination and discussion of real-world ethical issues and case studies. This course will develop your analytical capability in examining public health research, policy and practice issues.

Course learning outcomes

  • Critically reflect on historical and current public health dilemmas using philosophical perspectives or theories to describe ethical issues
  • Critically apply ethical frameworks and reasoning skills to develop an action plan to resolve ethical issues in public health practice and research
  • Demonstrate critical reasoning in the application of ethical knowledge in public practice
