Course overview
The course is one where research is undertaken under the guidance of a supervisor. The overall objective of the course is for students to demonstrate a deep understanding and interpretation of their chosen research field and the ability to clearly and thoroughly present their project. The overall product of the research will be either a thesis of up to 8,000 words or a research manuscript for publication, a seminar presentation and a professional activity development and reflection.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically appraise research evidence in a specific area relevant to public health or evidence-based healthcare
- Formulate a research question relevant to public health or evidence-based healthcare
- Select and justify an appropriate research design to investigate the research question
- Demonstrate the skills required to conduct a research project and analyse and interpret research findings
- Identify and communicate the ethical dimensions of research and demonstrate the skills and attitudes of an ethical researcher
- Use appropriate communication styles and terminology to present research findings effectively in oral and written forms
