Course overview

The aim of this course is to provide foundational knowledge in the field of human-animal relationships and their intersections in health and society. Continuum of Human-Animal relationships; Pets (positive and negative aspects), Assistance animals, Animal therapies and therapeutic engagements; First nations people and human-animal relationships; Risks and Ethical issues; policy and planning responses.

Course learning outcomes

  • Identify the main fields of human-animal intersections and their relationship to (human) health and society.
  • Describe evidence bases that support taking a multi-species approach to (human) health and society.
  • Apply the complex intersections between human health and animal rights and wellbeing across society to their field of endeavour.
