Course overview
The aim of this course is to extend students' knowledge of health psychology principles and procedures by familiarising students with the application of this knowledge to the practice of clinical psychology in health contexts. Students will develop knowledge of the psychological interventions of major health problems. Students will develop theoretical approaches to understanding and changing health behaviour; decision making in relation to health issues; assessment and clinical intervention methods; application of psychological knowledge to specific health problems; health promotion; assessment and program design; behavioural modification; and pharmacological interventions for psychological problems.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate mastery in understanding health psychology principles and theories through examination of the evidence based psychological literature.
- Demonstrate a high level of competence in the application of psychological interventions for health related issues.
