Course overview
The aim of this course is to prepare students for working with children and adolescents with a variety of psychological problems. Students will develop skills in diagnosis (using current major diagnostic classifications systems) and aetiology (including psychological models) of psychological problems across the spectrum of severity within the child and adolescent age range. The aim of this course is topics include: Mood disorders, anxiety disorders, learning disorders, PTSD and child abuse, working with families, attachment, and behavioural disorders.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate competency in identifying various presentations and diagnoses of children and adolescents.
- Demonstrate knowledge of evidenced based treatments for children, adolescents, their families, and the community.
- Critically evaluate concepts, strategies and techniques employed in psychological interventions with children and their families
