Course overview

The aim of this course is to develop students' advanced knowledge of and ability to apply psychological principles to a range of fundamental work and organisational psychology workplace issues and to further develop an understanding of the role of the psychologist in the work environment. In this course students will develop an advanced understanding of work and organisational psychology, including its history, psychological health at work, organisational culture and climate, emotional regulation at work, and workplace engagement. Students will also critically consider concepts of leadership and supervision, occupational stress theories, the psychology of unemployment, and counterproductive workplace behaviours.

Course learning outcomes

  • Evaluate significant theoretical ideas in the area of work and organisational psychology
  • Analyse a number of fundamental practical issues in the area of work and organisational psychology
  • Apply advanced knowledge of fundamental research methodologies used in empirical research within the area of work and organisational psychology
  • Identify and apply relevant psychological research and theory when solving work and organisational psychology problems
  • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of workplace interventions based on the principles of work and organisational psychology
