Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop students' knowledge of the major theories and concepts in cognitive psychology and to provide an understanding of their interdependence and relationship to human behaviour and experience. In this course students will further develop their understanding of cognitive psychology (including sensation and perception, attention and skilled performance, short-term memory and learning, long-term memory and memory impairment and executive functioning, language; reasoning and decision making, and social cognition). Students will apply this knowledge and their research skills in the preparation of a research report to address a real world question in cognitive psychology.
Course learning outcomes
- Describe the interactive nature of different aspects/stages of the process of cognition
- Reflect on the development of skills related to collaborative scientific design
- Critically evaluate research in cognitive psychology
- Apply cognitive psychological theory to real world issues
