Course overview

To extend knowledge of health, exercise and sport psychology principles to determine the social, psychological and environmental factors that influence exercise and health behaviours, sport participation and human performance, and apply appropriate best-practice behavioural strategies and theories to advance individuals and groups in health, exercise, and sport settings.

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe psychological, environmental and social factors that influence sport, exercise and physical activity participation, adherence and performance, as well as other behavioural aspects of health
  • Discuss how participation in sport, exercise and physical activity influences psychological aspects of the individuals involved
  • Apply health, exercise and sport psychology related knowledge and skills for professional roles related to human movement, exercise and sports science, and other health professions
  • Apply behaviour change theories and strategies in the health, exercise and sport context
  • Design individualized behavioural interventions in the health, exercise and sport context
