Course overview

The aim of this course is to provide students with an understanding of key concepts of social and population health and their application to aspects of particular relevance in occupational therapy practice. Key concepts of social and population health - the impact of culture, socialisation, the structural basis of inequity and social difference and differential impacts on health outcomes - gender, ethnicity, class and age.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate an understanding of key international concepts of social and population health.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of social and population health with regard to key Australian populations with particular reference to health, ill-health, and the social determinants of such.
  • Demonstrate an understanding to the structural nature (and impacts) of inequality and difference
  • Describe the range of services in the Australian Health system.
