Course overview
The aim of this course is to introduce students to theories and research in the areas of personality study, social psychology, abnormal psychology and human psychological development. In this course students will be introduced to the history and philosophy of psychology, personality psychology (including theories of personality; methods of assessing personality and individual differences), social psychology (including interpersonal behaviour, attitudes and discourse) abnormal psychology (conditions and therapy approaches) and the major theories of human cognitive and social development.
Course learning outcomes
- Describe and discuss the essential features of the major theories of personality, social, developmental and abnormal psychology.
- Demonstrate the ability to discuss empirically based information on selected topics in a discipline appropriate format and style.
- Become familiar with psychological research methods and perspectives and how these are applied in the context of personality, social, developmental and abnormal psychology.
