Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop students' understanding of foundational psychological concepts relevant to allied health and human services practice. Students will be introduced to psychology as a science, including the biological bases of psychology, states of consciousness, developmental stages from childhood to adulthood, learning theories, personality, emotion, motivation, and abnormal psychology. Students will apply this knowledge to analyse case studies and real-world scenarios in allied health and human services contexts.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate understanding of foundational psychological concepts, including brain function, cognition, learning, personality, emotion, motivation, and psychological distress
- Demonstrate understanding of human psychological development across the lifespan.
- Apply psychological concepts to practical scenarios relevant to allied health and human services practice.
