To develop students' knowledge of the dynamics and structures of the Australian political system and the consequences for society.

Course learning outcomes

  • Analyse the Australian political system.
  • Critically evaluate the processes and institutions of democratic Australian government.
  • Evaluate theory and practice of liberal and representative democracy.
  • Evaluate current political agendas in the context of key episodes in twentieth century Australian politics.
