Course overview

The aim of this course is to broaden students' knowledge and skills of assessment and management of musculoskeletal conditions and injury of the lower-limb. Pathophysiology, assessment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions and injury with a focus on the lower limb; Assessing the athlete; Principles of load management and return to sport; Specialised tests for assessment of the foot and lower limb relevant to podiatric biomechanics theory; Foot Orthoses manufacture. Critical thinking and clinical reasoning.

Course learning outcomes

  • Analyze and clinically reason musculoskeletal condition diagnoses affecting the foot and lower limb
  • Appraise and apply rehabilitation principles to musculoskeletal conditions and injuries of the lower-limb
  • Safely and proficiently perform objective tests relevant to common musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Safely and proficiently perform specialised tests for assessment of foot and lower-limb function relevant to podiatric biomechanics theory
  • Manufacture foot orthoses for the management of conditions affecting the foot and lower limb
  • Apply principles for the assessment and management of musculoskeletal conditions of an athlete and return to sport plans.
  • Apply principles of load management in managing musculoskeletal conditions of the foot and lower-limb.
