Course overview

The aim of this course is to develop the student in the practice of clinical pharmacy and therapeutics integrating skills and knowledge to enable the pharmacist to make rational decisions regarding a patient's drug management. Pathophysiology and treatment of various disease state modules. Specific modules taught in Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics 2 are: neurological disorders, geriatrics, pain, palliative care, paediatrics, connective tissue disorders and thyroid disorders. The course will also involve the application of evidence based medicine to practice identifying benefits and limitations to the population as a whole and the individual patient. Pharmacotherapy instruction will include dosage calculations, adverse reactions, drug interactions, relevant pharmacokinetics, alternative therapies and monitoring parameters.
