Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop the student in the practice of clinical pharmacy and therapeutics integrating skills and knowledge to enable the pharmacist to make rational decisions regarding a patient's drug management. Pathophysiology and treatment of various disease state modules. Specific modules taught in Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics 1 are: cardiology, infectious diseases and coagulation disorders. The course will also involve the application of evidence based medicine to practice identifying benefits and limitations to the population as a whole and the individual patient.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the pathophysiology of specific disease states
- Choose appropriate drug regimens for specific diseases
- Demonstrate awareness of current treatment practices, considering evidence based medicine
- Integrate the knowledge and skills required to practice as a clinical pharmacist
