Course overview

The aim of this course is to develop student understanding of effective management, leadership, and delivery of services in a range of pharmacy contexts preparing them for leadership roles in a variety of areas of pharmacy practice and health care systems. Management and leadership skills; Marketing strategies; financial and risk management, contracts of employment; inventory management and logistics; change management; organizational dynamics, quality assurance in health systems; Industrial relations and regulatory matters pertaining to pharmacy and health system management

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe the management models and strategies in the pharmacy and broader health system setting and the importance and qualities of effective leadership.
  • To analyze the policy framework and funding models for delivery of pharmacy and health care services in Australia and describe the principles of strategic and business planning in this context.
  • Apply marketing strategies for small businesses and health services within the health regulatory environment
  • Compare stress management and change models in their application to the future opportunities and challenges in pharmacy and health services.
