Course overview
The aim of this course is to integrate and apply knowledge of pharmacotherapeutics and professional practice acquired throughout the program in a specific professional practice setting to complement the professional experience from the community and hospital pharmacy practice placements in the course Professional Placement (PHAR 4017). Students undertake a placement of 3-weeks duration in a rural or practice setting that can include, but is not limited to, community or hospital pharmacy (rural or metropolitan depending upon allocated site for Professional Placement PHAR 4017) and specialist settings (such as manufacturing, clinical trials, medicines information services, regulatory affairs and health system governance).
Course learning outcomes
- Describe the relationship between the specific practice setting and the wider Australian healthcare system as it relates to interactions with the broader pharmacy profession and to other health professions as appropriate.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills necessary to practise professionally, responsibly and with development of judgement relevant to the specific practice setting.
- Select and apply the appropriate professional practice standards and legal and ethical frameworks relevant to the specific practice setting.
- Demonstrate professional communication skills relevant to pharmacy practice.
