Course overview
Students develop a theoretical and practical understanding of contemporary and professional pharmacy services delivered in a pharmacy. Current issues relevant to accredited professional services delivered by pharmacists are explored with respect to relevant legislation, practice guidelines and the associated application in practice. Community pharmacy agreement and the relevant professional practice documents will also be explored. Professional services in line with current legislation, such as vaccinations, prescribing and medication or disease management will be covered.
Course learning outcomes
- Investigate and be able to interpret the policy framework and funding models for the delivery of professional services in Australia.
- Interpret and apply the legislative documents that guide professional practice.
- Demonstrate competency (theoretical and practical) in delivering professional services, including and not limited to medication management and reconciliation, vaccinations and autonomous prescribing.
- Apply the principles of therapeutic decision making in the delivery of the relevant professional services to optimize patient health outcomes.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills and be able to construct both written and verbal communications to enable safe delivery of the specific professional services covered.
