Course overview
The aim of this course is to evaluate the design of advanced drug delivery systems and to critically analyse the influence of pharmaceutical regulatory affairs in industry, hospitals and community pharmacy. Biopharmaceuticals including peptides, proteins (eg: insulin, erythropoietin, vaccine), gene delivery; lipidic systems; sterile preparations including parenterals, nasal and ophthalmic delivery, implants, brain delivery; advanced topics covering radiopharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical nanotechnology, biosimilars, sunscreens and veterinary pharmaceuticals and others; regulatory affairs in pharmaceutical industry, hospitals, and community pharmacy.
Course learning outcomes
- Evaluate the formulation and manufacture of parenteral products and their fate upon injection.
- Evaluate methods available for sterilisation of pharmaceutical products.
- Analyse drug delivery systems
- Analyse the influence of pharmaceutical regulatory affairs.
- Interpret the formulation of veterinary pharmaceuticals
- Investigate the development of pharmaceutical nanotechnology
