Course overview

The aim of this course is to provide students with an understanding of contemporary pharmacotherapeutics with regards to disease management, selection and optimisation of medicines. The syllabus involves the development of knowledge in the science of drug treatment of human disease, pharmacotherapeutics, in the following health discipline areas: neurology and psychiatry; haematology and oncology; reproductive medicine; addiction disorders; gastroenterology; ophthalmology. For each of these discipline areas, specific conditions managed with pharmacotherapeutic modalities will be addressed.

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply knowledge of pharmacotherapeutics in the management of the diseases & disorders encompassed in this course.
  • Formulate solutions taking into consideration both disease-specific and patient-specific factors in the selection of appropriate medicines and their optimal use in the management of clinical disorders
  • Demonstrate the ability to optimise the use of selected medicines.
