Course overview

Building on knowledge gained in earlier clinical trials courses, this course will focus on the practical aspects of clinical trial conduct and aligns with the program intent to provide fundamental concepts and principles including activities that promote professional development in clinical trials. Students will gain relevant training in clinical trial aspects, including Good Clinical Practice, measurement of standard safety parameters, phlebotomy and handling of biological samples.

Course learning outcomes

  • Interpret the principles of Good Clinical Practice, and be able to apply these in practice
  • Recognise the importance of appropriate study design, and consideration of factors contributing to feasibility of trial conduct
  • Articulate critical aspects of informed consent in the clinical research setting
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely collect reliable and accurate data for the evaluation of study endpoints
