Course overview
This course will enable students to consolidate in a practice environment the knowledge, skills and behaviours developed in the academic program, to reflect on their clinical experience and to utilise lifelong learning skills to explore and respond to issues that arise during field practice. Orientation to Field Practice 4 including expectations and assessment. Application of knowledge and skills gained in the academic program to field practice. Use of self-directed learning to explore issues arising from field practice experience. Completion of a project on the evidence and its application to practice for a clinical area.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply knowledge and skills to the development and provision of occupational therapy services, to a level of competence consistent with an entry level occupational therapist.
- Undertake primary responsibility, under supervision, for planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting occupational therapy programs.
- Demonstrate professional ethical behaviour, respectful practice and advanced level interpersonal skills when communicating and liaising with the client, family, health professionals and other key stakeholders
- Demonstrate an ability to function effectively as a member of a health care team.
- Demonstrate and apply an in-depth knowledge of occupational therapy theory, process and strategies.
- Comply with policies and procedures relevant to the field practice setting.
- Apply skills of self-directed learning to explore issues arising from the field practice experience with high levels of autonomy and accountability.
