Course overview
The aim of this course is to enable students to apply and integrate knowledge and skills gained in the academic program to field practice in Occupational Therapy. Role of practice education/work based learning in developing professional competencies and graduate attributes. Interpersonal skills and therapeutic use of self in occupational therapy. Orientation to field practice: expectations, goal setting, effective use of supervision, self directed learning in practice settings, reflective practice and performance evaluation. Observation and participation in occupational therapy programs and service delivery, under supervision. Application of knowledge and skills gained in the academic program to field practice.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply and demonstrate beginning level occupational therapy knowledge and skills relevant to the needs and issues of allocated clients.
- Demonstrate an organised, analytical approach to self assessment of field practice.
- Apply skills in report / clinical writing relevant to the practice area.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.
- Understand and display professional and ethical behaviour consistent with the requirements of the practice setting.
