Course overview
The aim of this course is to enable students to effectively implement and evaluate a project in partnership with a community agency, using community development principles appropriate to occupational therapy practice. Full-time or equivalent field practice affiliation working in a community setting. Development of project implementation and evaluation skills under the supervision of a field practice tutor and the agency supervisor.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate the ability to function as a facilitator rather than assuming the `expert¿ position including effective skills in: working with people rather than for people, listening to and learning from others, awareness of resource options available within the community, accessing available resources with and on behalf of stakeholders
- Demonstrate the ability to manage and monitor a planned project demonstrating effective skills in: communication and negotiation, participatory techniques, resource management (human and non-human), networking, identification of problems and capacity to address these in a politically and socially acceptable manner, ensuring sustainability
- Demonstrate professional conduct and ethical practice
- Demonstrate the ability to evaluate a planned project including selection and utilisation of evaluation methods, use of participatory and capacity building techniques, identifying recommendations for the future
- Prepare a comprehensive written report of the project and its outcomes
- Effectively present and disseminate information about the project and its outcomes.
