Course overview
The aim of this course is to enable students to consolidate and apply in a practice environment the knowledge, skills and behaviours developed in the academic program. Orientation workshop including expectations and assessment; therapist; application of knowledge and skills gained in the academic program to the practice setting; use of self-directed online learning to explore and extend knowledge and issues that arise from the placement experience; debrief session upon completion of placement.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply knowledge and skills to the development and provision of occupational therapy services, to a level of competence consistent with an entry level occupational therapist
- Undertake primary responsibility, under supervision, for planning, implementing monitoring, evaluating and reporting occupational therapy programs
- Demonstrate respectful practice and advanced level interpersonal skills when communicating and liaising with the client, family, health professionals and other key stakeholders
- Demonstrate an ability to function effectively as a member of a health care team
- Demonstrate and apply an in-depth knowledge of occupational therapy theory, process and strategies.
- Demonstrate safe professional and ethical behaviour consistent with the requirements of an entry level occupational therapist in the practice setting
- Comply with policies and procedures relevant to the field practice setting
