Course overview
The aim of this course is to enable students to develop the knowledge, skills and capacity to analyse and plan a community orientated project in collaboration with an appropriate agency. Philosophical and theoretical basis for community orientated practice. Processes and strategies relevant to community orientated approaches. Visits and liaison with community based agencies to identify potential projects, liaise with key stakeholders. Needs analysis and develop a project to meet the needs and aims of one agency. Acquisition skills for project planning and development.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply social health and community development principles to occupational therapy practice with a target community.
- Effectively undertakes a preliminary needs assessment with a target group.
- Apply project management skills in the development of a project plan to address a specified issue.
- Demonstrate collaborative skills and use of participatory techniques in developing a project plan.
- Apply ethical skills to project planning.
- Demonstrate capacity for critical reflection through awareness of skills and competencies achieved and those requiring further development
- Demonstrate appropriate professional behaviour.
