Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop entry-level ability for conducting environmental assessments and for providing intervention through environmental manipulation. Principles, techniques, legislative and relevant governance requirements for the application of universal access, assistive technology and environmental modifications to facilitate occupational performance. Principles and techniques to assess environmental dimensions of a person's environment and recommend equipment and modification to facilitate occupational performance. Occupational impact of a range of conditions including spinal cord injury, amputation, developmental delay, sensory processing deficits, multiple severe disabilities and the clinical reasoning process underpinning assessment and intervention within the Occupational Performance Model.
Course learning outcomes
- Describe the influence of the social, cultural, institutional and physical environments in enabling occupational performance.
- Conduct environmental observation and assessments for people with a range of occupational barriers.
- Articulate appropriate clinical reasoning to support intervention recommendations.
- Describe the occupational impact of a range of conditions.
- Apply knowledge regarding equipment prescription, home modifications, assistive technology and sensory processing to enable participation in self care, play and leisure occupations.
- Design an intervention strategy using environmental manipulation as a key enabling agent.
