Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop knowledge of concepts of nutritional science applied to exercise and sport; develop an understanding of the relationships between diet and sports performance and apply sports nutrition principles to exercise science. Nutritional requirements for training, pre-competition, competition and recovery. Supplements and ergogenic aids. Requirements for athletes with special needs, requirements in special circumstances and training in different environmental conditions.
Course learning outcomes
- Describe and apply principles of nutrition for exercise and performance.
- Describe the special nutritional requirements for athletes with special needs, and athletes training in different environmental conditions.
- Identify nutritionally vulnerable athletes within the sporting population.
- Critically appraise sports supplements and food fads.
