Course overview
This course builds on the concepts of nutritional science and applies them to exercise and performance. This course will develop knowledge in physiological and metabolic processes involved in different physical activities and develop knowledge of the relationships between diet, nutrition and exercise and performance. This course aligns with the program intent to build evidence-based knowledge to develop and critique nutritional interventions designed to improve performance and health.
Course learning outcomes
- Describe and apply principles of nutrition for exercise and performance at all competitive levels
- Describe the special nutritional requirements for athletes with special needs, and athletes travelling and training in different environmental conditions
- Identify nutritionally vulnerable athletes within the sporting population
- Critically appraise sports supplements and food fads
- Develop practical diet-related strategies to enhance training and performance in all individuals undertaking exercise
