Course overview
To enable nurses to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to assess and perform skin cancer screening, identify suspicious lesions, enact referral pathways, and provide patient education.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply skills in synthesising research evidence to evaluate skin cancer incidence and prevalence in Australia
- Examine skin with a dermatoscope to identify skin lesions
- Apply algorithms for recognising atypical features in skin lesions
- Evaluate various patterns and structures within the skin that can indicate disease
- Analyse different types of skin lesions and benign and malignant growths
- Deliver person-centred education regarding skin cancer prevention and detection, and determine referral/follow-up pathways
- Demonstrate competency in performing a skin cancer check
