Course overview
Students will explore, develop and apply knowledge of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics to inform advanced assessment and prescribing for advanced scopes of nursing practice through in depth examination of common medicines used across a range of practice areas including major drug classifications likely to be used in their own practice client population. Contents include: Prescribing medicines; classifications of commonly administered medicines in the area of nurse practitioner specialisation and in common chronic health problems; relevant legislation as it relates to nurse practitioner practice; formulary in scope of practice; medication safety; evidenced-based practice; adherence to use of medicines, Australian medicines terminology, National Prescribing Framework, Quality Use of Medicines.
