Course overview
Students will demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in holistic health assessment, differential diagnosis and initiation of client treatment plans relevant to the nurse practitioner scope of practice or extended scope of practice.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically evaluate assessment frameworks relevant to client context, role, and scope of practice.
- Demonstrate complex and critical thinking to conduct advanced holistic client centred assessment relevant to the student's context and scope of practice using best available evidence.
- Demonstrate judicious decision making and appropriate consultation in the selection of diagnostic investigations to support holistic client centred assessment.
- Apply diagnostic reasoning to synthesise and interpret assessment data to formulate accurate client diagnoses in predictable and unpredictable situations to inform comprehensive, culturally appropriate client treatment plans.
- Demonstrate accountability and informed decision making to recognise when client health situations are outside of the advanced practice nurse or nurse practitioner scope of practice and refer to other health professionals to ensure the best possible client health outcomes.
