To enable learners to demonstrate knowledge, skills and attitudes consistent with professional standards in the provision of person-centred care to people in high acuity settings.

Course learning outcomes

  • In collaboration with relevant interdisciplinary team members, conduct a comprehensive assessment and document a plan of care for people across the lifespan in a high acuity setting
  • Implement safe and effective person-centred nursing care for people in high acuity settings to achieve identified health outcomes
  • Use problem-solving skills and research evidence to evaluate and revise a plan of care to meet the continuing needs of the person within the high acuity setting
  • Demonstrate appropriate communication strategies to promote an optimal physical, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual environment for people in high acuity settings
  • Apply analytical skills in accessing health information and research evidence in the provision of person-centred nursing care
  • Evaluate own nursing practice in accordance with professional standards, legal and ethical policies and codes of practice and revise where appropriate
  • Demonstrates the principles associated with the safe administration of medications, including pharmacological perspectives
