Course overview
During Minor Thesis A students have the opportunity to refine and extend competence in scholarly inquiry, critique and reflection, and to gain confidence and authority in the research process through the development and conduct of a small research project. Through this research activity students should become a contributor to the knowledge base of nursing or midwifery. There may be an opportunity to publish the findings of the research in a nursing, midwifery or other journal.

Course learning outcomes
- Identify and refine a research question and/or problem that has relevance to their field of practice and is suitable to the nature and scope of a minor thesis.
- Justify an appropriate research design to investigate the identified research question/problem.
- Demonstrate analytical ability in situating the research question within the literature and present this as a literature review.
- Demonstrate analytical ability in applying the identified research design to develop a sound research proposal and feasible research project plan and schedule.
