Course overview
This course will provide opportunity to extend nursing practice in caring for patients in high acuity settings. Students will have the opportunity to begin to learn how to practice in accordance with the NMBA National Nursing Competency Standards for the Registered Nurse.
Course learning outcomes
- Further develop and refine skills of observation, assessment, communication and documentation.
- Apply and integrate knowledge from the nursing and biological sciences and evidence based practice into complex health care.
- Identify and describe pharmacokinetics for selected health problems.
- Identify the different complexities and knowledge required from the nursing and biological sciences and evidence based practice across a variety of different settings.
- Articulate the impact of complex health problems on patients and families across the lifespan.
- Further develop clinical practice skills.
- Continue to develop nursing practice within an evidence based nursing framework.
- Continue to develop nursing practice using guidance of the NMBA standards.
- Provide nursing care for a group of patients with acute and chronic health problems in varying contexts of practice.
- Perform drug calculations accurately and administer medications competently and safely.
