Course overview

This course will explore contemporary concepts and issues related to leadership and management necessary for a registered nurse. All registered nurses have leadership responsibilities and many also undertake management roles.

Course learning outcomes

  • Discuss key structural factors that shape leadership decision making in the healthcare system.
  • Reflect on personal leadership strengths and weaknesses in relation to the RN role to improve practice.
  • Analyse how nursing leadership can influence healthcare policy to impact healthcare outcomes.
  • Integrate knowledge of the Australian healthcare system to influence quality care.
  • Theorise how nursing leaders can influence a positive workplace culture.
