The aim of this course is to enhance fundamental nursing practice that underpin selected acute and chronic illnesses across the lifespan, integrating evidence-based practice.

Course learning outcomes

  • Integrate and apply knowledge from nursing science and evidence-based practice for an individual with simple, acute and chronic health care needs
  • Integrate biological, physiological and pharmacological sciences with nursing the acutely and chronically ill patient
  • Identify relevant activities of daily living for a patient with a selected health problem
  • Articulate considerations of varying needs of patients who are ill across the lifespan
  • Identify and explain diagnostic tests relevant to selected health problems
  • Identify and describe pharmacokinetics for selected health problems
  • Identify nutritional requirements for patients with chronic illness
