Course overview

The aim of this course is to extend knowledge and skills relating to clinical reasoning and decision-making by exploring clinical reasoning and decision-making theories, models and frameworks.

Course learning outcomes

  • Analyse, evaluate, and apply the theoretical concepts that inform reasoned, evidence-based decision-making in practice.
  • Consider the role of the midwife/registered nurse in multidisciplinary ethical and legal practices as they relate to clinical reasoning and decision-making.
  • Identify and support women's/patient's choice, while working in a partnership model, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women/patients and those with ethnic and other diverse needs.
  • Apply theories and principles of clinical reasoning and decision making to progress nursing and midwifery models of care.
  • Critically reflect upon cultural identity, professional, and personal beliefs, and lifestyle choices, that impact decision-making
