Course overview

This course provides opportunity for students to experience the reality of practice and begin to apply theoretical and scientific concepts. Students will have the opportunity to begin to learn how to practice in accordance with the NMBA National Nursing Competency Standards for the Registered Nurse.

Course learning outcomes

  • Begin to make comprehensive health assessments, including vital signs and documentation.
  • Utilise the Fundamentals of Care framework to support activities of daily living to provide patient-centred care.
  • Students will practice clinical skills congruent with their scope of practice as first-year nursing students.
  • Students will attend an immersive simulation to prepare them to nurse older people in aged care.
  • Commence nursing practice utilising an evidence-based framework and under the supervision of an RN at all times.
  • Commence nursing practice using the guidance of the NMBA standard statements.
