Course overview

In this course students will examine and consider concepts of haematology/oncology nursing practice that are essential for safe and effective patient outcomes. Students will learn about various practice-related issues within their cancer care setting.

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe the history and development of cancer and cancer nursing
  • Analyse and discuss issues related to diverse personal, disease and treatment characteristics and their potential impact on the cancer journey
  • Describe and discuss the various psychosocial supports available to people affected by cancer
  • Compare the different contexts in which patients may be cared for and the models of care and nursing management involved
  • Discuss the development of cancer research and identify potential topics for cancer nursing research
