Course overview

This course will develop health professionals' understanding and application of a range of education strategies to facilitate learning. Teaching and learning strategies, teaching plans, presentation techniques, education evaluation, enhancing learning with technology, simulation, inquiry-based learning, problem-based learning, case based learning, critiquing the learning environment, online learning environments, assessment of learning, feedback, assessment tools, clinical assessment, moderation practices, self and peer assessment, principles of alignment.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explore a range of teaching techniques and understand how to maximise learning in clinical and other education settings.
  • Design, implement and evaluate student-centred educational sessions tailored to clinical and other health education contexts.
  • Design and implement educational assessment using the principles of alignment.
  • Discuss the principles and purposes of moderation in educational assessment.
  • Critically reflect on the design, implementation and evaluation of educational session and assessment.
