This course will build on the nephrology nursing course to incorporate assessment, diagnosis and care of the critically ill nephrology patient across different settings. Students will learn best evidence based practice to support advanced nephrology nursing practice to provide excellent care and leadership.

Course learning outcomes
- Discuss and evaluate the haematological, biochemical and pharmacological principles that guide responsible care and management of people with kidney disease
- Demonstrate safe and competent extended respiratory and cardiac assessment and diagnostics inclusive of managing appropriate testing
- Apply critical thinking and research evidence-based clinical decision making in the management of patients with kidney disease
- Identify and examine the roles, responsibilities and scopes of practice of nurses and other health professionals caring for patients with kidney disease in different settings
- Develop critical awareness of the range of skills for effective communication and collaboration to lead a multidisciplinary team
