Course overview
This course aims to equip clinicians with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognise and respond to clinical deterioration in critical care settings. Students will develop advanced assessment skills and learn to provide effective nursing management for critically ill patients and their families, while promoting compassionate and therapeutic patient and family-focused care.

Course learning outcomes
- Detect, recognise, and escalate signs of clinical deterioration in diverse patient groups, while demonstrating skills to respond and care for patients whose condition is acutely deteriorating.
- Explain the aetiology, pathophysiology and management of common conditions in critical care environments.
- Conduct systematic, evidence-based advanced health assessments of critically ill people
- Interpret health assessment findings and diagnostic data to prioritise care of critically unwell people
- Apply evidence-based research and nursing care to provide safe, effective supports for people with critical illness
- Discuss the impact of technology on patient outcomes, safety, and quality of care delivery within critical care settings
