Course learning outcomes
- Describe key demographic, cultural, socio-political and socio-economic factors that underpin the diverse health issues and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities
- Describe the relationship between the history of colonisation and race relations in Australia and contemporary socioeconomic disadvantage faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities, particularly in association with changing epidemiological patterns
- Recognise diversity in the cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with regard to the provision of culturally safe healthcare delivery
- Describe the importance of cross-cultural communication in relation to healthcare practice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Discuss contemporary healthcare strategies as they relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities and explore barriers and enablers with regard to healthcare delivery
