Course overview
Specialisations are offered across a range of instruments, as well as voice. Students receive 11 hours per semester of individual tuition in their chosen specialisation. Through the study of appropriate technical studies and jazz repertoire, students develop advanced technical proficiency alongside a strong understanding of jazz style and interpretative principles. Students are expected to perform their selected repertoire with accuracy and fluency, demonstrating secure rhythmic control and a well-developed creative and expressive voice. They must also demonstrate jazz improvisation in appropriate styles, a strong conceptual understanding of the works performed, and the ability to communicate effectively with an audience.
Course learning outcomes
- Exhibit technical and musical skills that, through accuracy, fluency and stylistic awareness, illustrate a strong and maturing conceptual and interpretative understanding of the student's instrument and chosen repertoire
